one group of people spends hours traveling across town to sit in a
sweltering compound and practice Handel. They are members of the
Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste, Central Africa's only symphony
orchestra.

De onweerstaanbare documentaire Kinshasa Symphony gaat over het dagelijkse reilen en zeilen bij het Orchestre Symphonique de Kinshasa(OSK), een bij elkaar geraapt orkest dat bestaat uit elektriciens en verkoopsters, amateurs en autodidacten allerhande. De memorabele momenten van gratie maken het allemaal de moeite waard. “Maar de echte magie van het OSK, dat zijn net niet de opoffering, vindingrijkheid, enthousiasme en passie, maar wel de universele muziek die de muzikanten delen met de inwoners van de allerarmste wijken van Kinshasa. De magie van het OSK, dat is de menigte die uit zijn dak gaat en als één man opstaat van op de plastic stoeltjes en de finale van Carmina Burana bedelft onder een gigantisch applaus.”
